Blender Geometry Nodes Fundamentals Part 2 - Modelling

Geometry Nodes For Everyone

One of the frustrations I experienced when I started looking into Geometry Nodes was the lack of practical examples for modelling. Most tutorials seem to focus on themes such as motion graphics or even just abstract demonstrations.

So for me one of the biggest challenges was simply to establish how useful Geometry Nodes can be for everyday users. Which is why in this training I focus exclusively on practical uses for modelling.

Geometry Nodes are very powerful, and they can be leveraged for many uses, and of course this applies to modelling too. Beyond the obvious use-cases of duplication and animation, Geometry Nodes can also be used for many functional modelling purposes.

Once you understand how to use them in this context, a whole world of procedural modelling will open up, with endless possibilities.

One huge benefit Geometry Nodes offer is that they allow artists to create re-usable tools, with full parametric control of every important value. This allows you to work faster by automating modelling tasks, and to create your own presets for tools that you use often.

Creating your own tools is easy and convenient, and once built you can access them from the same menu as the built-in nodes, meaning your personal tools are first-class citizens in the Geometry Nodes workspace.

The training covers several step-by-step examples of everyday modelling tasks, from working with curves, to creating bespoke geometry, controlling the distribution of condensation droplets, and wrapping complex patterns on curved surfaces (such as the whisky glass in the cover image).

For beginners this is an excellent introduction to the practical uses of geometry nodes, and for more experienced users this will offer some insights into specific workflows. There are many ways to solve distinct problems with Geometry Nodes because the architecture is very open-ended, so it’s always worth learning different approaches to problem-solving.

So if you’re wondering if Geometry Nodes are worth your time, this training will answer that question with a resounding yes by opening your eyes to the possibilities on offer.

In this training you will

  • Learn to leverage Geometry Nodes for everyday practical uses, so you can use them for common modelling tasks

  • Learn several very useful techniques for creating fully editable procedural models, so you can create non-destructive geometry

  • Learn several ways to use live curves to create items such as ropes and chains, so that you can easily create any curve-based geometry

  • Learn to create dynamic geometry that updates parametrically, so that you can create procedural displays or text that updates automatically

  • Learn how to make your own Gizmos to control your bespoke geometry interactively, so that you can create user-friendly tools

  • Learn how to wrap complex geometry onto curved shapes, to simplify the modelling of difficult meshes

  • Learn how to save your node graphs as re-usable tools that can be accessed in the node editor at any time, so that you can quickly build your own library of tools to suit your specific needs
