I have been working in 3D and illustration for over 20 years, and have a long track record of providing expert training in lighting, rendering, and shading. I work in a range of styles, from photorealism to quirky and unique, and I have experience in several industries, including advertising, publishing and film. I am the author of Light For Visual Artists, a well-regarded book on the fundamentals of lighting.

I am a very industrious and creative person, driven by a deep curiosity to discover things and to make stuff, and as a result all of my spare time is spent researching, learning, and creating. I am always learning new skills, and I also like to share the things I've learnt and discovered with others, which is why I love creating tutorials and assets to make life easier for other artists. My work is very diverse, and so it is showcased in different places: on this site you will find my realistic 3D work, but I also create very stylised illustrations which can be found at itchy-animation.com and hand-drawn storyboards which I showcase at richardyot.co.uk. In my spare time I also write songs in a dark and dreamy style, which can check out on Bandcamp or Spotify and iTunes.

In 2013 I spent 8 months at Walking the Dog, a animation studio in Brussels where I worked as a lighting lead on the animated feature Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart. Other than that my career has been freelance, working for a very diverse set of clients all over the world, from advertising agencies such as JWT, BBH, and Proximity London and numerous production houses and publishers, interactive work for clients such as Sony, packaging work for clients such as Thorntons and other clients too numerous to mention. Nowadays I concentrate mostly on selling assets online to help other artists.
